concerned with helping others see an accurate picture of God
This weekend I attend the funeral of the father of a dear friend of 15 years. As expected it was very difficult and sad to witness the goodbye of a very loved father, husband, brother, cousin, uncle, mentor, coworker, and friend to so many. At the service I learned more about Mr. Thompson as he was known to me. It was very encouraging as people shared stories and memories to hear about all the unknown things to me that he had devoted his life to. Mitchell Thompson was known for many admirable things but the one common thread that was mentioned in every story was how he offered others kindness. It was very natural and easy for everyone gathered to honor Mitchell Thompson and celebrate his life. It was a day I was very proud to know and love the Thompsons.
In addition to the visitation, funeral, and lunch at their home church Calvary I watched blood brother for the second time and the film kite runner for the first. As you could suppose it has been a weekend full of many thoughts. Just to touch on the latest I've thought about what I would want to be said of my life, not as a sweeping statement but as an accurate representation of my time, I've come to want to be known as someone who always offered grace to others. Grace as a reminder of God at work. Grace is what we all need. I want my life to meet others needs. I feel life in this truth, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”Frederick Buechner
I am looking at what it means to offer grace to others. I believe there is so much in this to looking more like Jesus and showing the world who God is. There are a few verses that mention grace that I want to draw from in the seemingly insignificant parts of life. To learn to constantly be giving grace in all the small things that equate to the greater ways of life.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me-the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. Acts 20:24
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
...by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. Timothy 1:8-9
And as it is my dearly loved friend was given the name Grace.
The God I am blessed to know is a God who is at work.
